Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Movie Review
On September 3rd, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released in theaters, and viewers got to see the first Asian superhero protagonist on the Marvel big screen. I was one of those people who got the chance to watch the movie when it came out, and it did not disappoint.
Shang-Chi ties many different themes together as the main character, Shang-Chi, faces his past he hoped to escape when he is drawn back into his father’s organization, the Ten Rings. Not only does this Marvel story connect to the “imposter” Ten Rings organization in Iron Man 3, but it also sets the stage for more courses that Marvel can take in the future.
This thrilling movie has something for everyone: action, humor, family struggles, culture, catchy music, and exciting Marvel cameos. The actress of Katie, Awkwafina, added a comedic flare to Shang-Chi that had me laughing endlessly. I was extremely impressed by the action-packed scenes because they seemed so mystical and well crafted. They were even better to watch after knowing that Simu Liu, actor of Shang-Chi, did most of his own stunts!
It was also great to see more Asian representation in current movies, especially in such a large franchise like Marvel. Cast members Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and Fala Chen are very well known in many Asian films. They helped add more culture and authenticity to the movie, making it an even more enjoyable watch!
If you haven’t seen Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, I would highly recommend watching it! Whether you’re a Marvel fan or not, it will be an experience you won’t regret.
