With another year gone by, Lenape is holding its annual Spirit Week! In this exciting, fun-filled week, students earn points for their class by dressing up with theme days, decorating the best hallway, and winning the pep rally games on Pride Day! It’s the ultimate battle of the classes as they fight to claim the prized Spirit Stick (and, of course, bragging rights).
One of the crucial aspects of earning points is through hallway decorating. The theme this year, which you’ve maybe guessed from the title of this article, is “Fairy Tales.” Although, I would say the theme is pretty flexible this time around– we’ve got the freshmen with The Little Mermaid, the sophomores with Alice in Wonderland, the juniors with Shrek, and the seniors with Tangled. I’m still wondering if Shrek and Alice in Wonderland are actually fairy tales, but I’m willing to let it slide…
Unlike some of the other classes, the Freshmen Class especially honed in on the idea of “Fairy Tales,” taking lines from Hans Christian Anderson’s original work The Little Mermaid. G-Hall was covered in blue, making students feel like actual fish in a school (pun-intended)! There were eye-catching scenes from The Little Mermaid film and 3D sea creatures lining the way. For their first year, the Freshmen did a really nice job.
That leads us to the Sophomore Class who brought “Wonderland” to Lenape High School. With their colorful decorations and displays that mirror the cartoon film, students get to experience the “mad” yet playful nature of the story’s setting. B-Hall was decked out in cards (pun-intended, again) and it felt like we were on our way to visit the Queen of Hearts!
I’ll be honest. The Junior Class did such an amazing job with Shrek that I won’t even complain about it not technically being a fairy tale. The halls were completely filled with realistic decorations as if students were stepping into the world of Duloc. The brick walls, “Wanted” posters, and paintings of key characters were wonderful additions to E-Hall. There were so many decorations in this hallway, I couldn’t even find my math classroom because the room numbers were covered up! That’s some real dedication on the juniors’ part.
And finally, we have the Senior Class with Tangled, or in other words, Rapunzel. Ever heard of the line, “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair”? Well, we seniors took that seriously. You’ll find golden hair strewn across the walls and wrapped around walkway railings, leading students through breathtaking paintings of scenes from the movie. While ND-Hall might not be as filled as some of the other hallways, I personally feel that the murals make up for it. Every landscape is a work of art; the detail of each one is unbelievable as if you could pull the image straight from the film. Call me biased, but I think this hallway deserves some recognition.
Overall, every class did an amazing job on their hallway decorations! While there can only be one winner, each class truly outdid themselves with their beautiful displays. I’m sure everyone is excited to see who will be taking home the Spirit Stick on Pride Day 😉
The End.
