It’s that time of year when the winter sports at Lenape are in full swing! We have many promising seasons ahead of us, so let’s look at the prospects for this year’s Lenape winter sports teams!
Boys Basketball
The Lenape Boys Basketball Team is no stranger to powerful seasons, as they’ve had a winning season ever since 2016. This year will be no different for them, as they’ve already gone 4-1, their only loss being a close 64-56 against strong opponent Middle Township.
In the pre-season statewide ranking, Lenape got named into the No. 19 spot, a well-deserved placement for their performance in past seasons. A conference title is extremely likely for the boys, as they’ve already defeated Cherokee, a consistently tough in-conference opponent in years past.
This team is incredibly senior-heavy, but they also have solid underclassmen ready to fill in if needed. All in all, expectations are high for the Indians, and we hope that they have an exceptional season this year.
Girls Basketball
The Lenape Girl’s Basketball Team, just like their male counterpart, is a force to be reckoned with. Similarly, they’ve also started the season with a 4-1 record, their only loss being an incredibly close 43-41 against Cherry Hill West.
They have a tough schedule ahead of them, as they’ll face off against No. 9 Manasquan and No. 12 Mainland. They’ve already played No. 18 Cherokee, taking them down 54-33, but they’ll be having a rematch with the Chiefs at some point during the season.
The Indians have a good season ahead of them, and we are looking forward to what these ladies will accomplish this year.
Boys Swimming
The Lenape Boys Swimming Team has not had a good season in a while, but hopefully this year they can try to turn things around. They’ve started with a record of 1-3, but two of those losses are against teams in the Top 20, No. 3 Cherry Hill East and No. 15 Haddonfield.
They still have yet to play some tough opponents this season, like No. 18 Cherokee, so we are hoping they can make a strong showing against the Chiefs, as well as their other opponents throughout the season.
Girls Swimming
The Lenape Girls Swimming Team, like the boys, also has not had a winning season in a while, and this year is looking to be no different. They’ve started with a record of 0-4, with two of their losses being against No. 5 Cherry Hill East and No. 19 Haddonfield.
With only a handful of games left in the season, we are hoping that the Indians can at least clinch one win, especially against our rival, Cherokee.
Wrestling
The Lenape Wrestling Team has had a mix of different kinds of seasons over the years, and as they’ve started this one with an even 2-2, who knows where this season will end up.
One of their two losses was against No. 7 Camden Catholic, and as they won’t be playing any more Top 20 teams in their regular season, we are hopeful that the Indians can take home a winning season.
