Kids play a plethora of games nowadays, but out of all of them, one stands out: Have you ever heard of Block Blast? You most likely have. This game has captivated the hearts of countless Lenape students! In this article, I will explain details about this game, and who knows, by the end of this report, maybe you’ll be inquisitive enough to try it for yourself.
What is Block Blast
Block Blast is a block puzzle game similar to Tetris. It’s available on the App Store and Google Play, making it easily accessible for Apple and Android users. In this game, a choice of three blocks is given. You can place the blocks anywhere on the board, but you may not rotate them. If a column or row is filled with blocks, it is cleared, and points are awarded. After the three blocks are placed, another three are given, and this cycle continues. The game concludes once there is no remaining space to put a block.
Block Blast: Pros and Cons
Many view Block Blast as an addicting game that is easily distracting for students and thus are opposed to it. However, others view it as a game to strengthen your mind. I agree with this opinion because it improves your critical thinking skills, but I also think that playing it very frequently, like any other game, isn’t good. An anonymous person from my survey mentioned that the game is entertaining, but she also quoted negatively, “it seems to be doing the same actions over and over again, so it’s repetitive.” Furthermore, some people dislike the game due to its simplicity, while others like it particularly for this aspect. Most modern games are complex and have many features, unlike this. I agree that this game’s simplicity does indeed make it fun. Sometimes, people don’t appreciate the fact that things can be simple, yet enjoyable at the same time. Additionally, the game is considered stress-relieving and relaxing by many. Cole Marlin, a freshman at Lenape, describes this game as “brain-numbing” and can help to pass the time. It also has a competitive aspect because people constantly try to beat one of their friends or their high score.
Block Blast Interview:
In order to gather opinions about this game, I surveyed my peers on the following three questions:
- Do you like or dislike Block Blast, and why?
- Rate the game on enjoyability on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest).
- What is your high score in Block Blast?
Response Summary:
Based on the survey, I observed that there was a mixed response towards Block Blast. While a majority of people liked Block Blast, many disliked it as well. For example, students who were better at the game, and had higher highscores, tended to enjoy the game more. Tanish Nelapati, Ryon Senthil, and an anonymous person had high scores of 12,000, 9,455 and 11,521, and each rated the game highly with 10, 8.5-9, and 8, respectively. The students’ high scores directly correlated with their ratings and opinions of this game. However, one student who wasn’t good at this game, did not enjoy this game as much. Giri Madan with a high score of 3926, and rating of 5 stars, explicitly stated, “I dislike Block Blast because I’m not good at it.” Despite the game being promoted all over social media, some people were not motivated to try it.
Key Takeaways:
- Positive opinions: A fun way to pass time, relaxing and easy to play and learn. Engaging as it is a game of puzzle and strategy, and one can go to many levels on it. Have seen worse games.
- Negative opinions: It’s repetitive and boring. Challenging and thus not good at playing it . This game beyond aesthetics is nothing. Better, more exciting games exist like Brawl Stars.
Averages:
- Average Rating: 6.33 Stars
- Average High Score (excluding people who have not played this game): 8909
