Introduction
Very recently, on March 13th, 2025, one of our very own students at Lenape, Max Frankunas, was sworn in as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Max is now training to become an Auxiliary Boat Crew Member for Flotilla 1808, which is based in Marlton.
What is the Coast Guard Auxiliary?
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian, volunteer wing of the Coast Guard. It is focused on informing the public about boating safety and actively improving it, working to keep U.S. waterways and ports secure, and supporting the Coast Guard in various administrative and logistical capacities.
About Max
Max has found a calling to the water from an early age, sailing since just eight years old. Max is also a member of the Smoke Signal, an artist, currently taking pilot lessons, and interested in becoming a certified SCUBA diver. Next year, Max will be attending Juniata College, majoring in Environmental Studies.
How does Max feel?
In an interview from a press release, Max stated that they “are so excited to become an Auxillarst.” Max is looking forward to the variety of training the Coast Guard Auxiliary offers and is interested in contributing to the Marine Safety and Environmental Protection program. Additionally, Max’s father, Mike Frankunas, is also beginning the process of joining the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Max cannot wait to “show Dad the ropes.”
Max offers some advice for Lenape students: “Consider joining the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. You will be challenged but you stand to learn a lot and perform a public service, all while gaining great experience to add to your resume.”

We are all very proud of our newest member, Max Frankunas! Max has already begun making an excellent contribution to our Marlton based, Flotilla! If you are a boater, don’t be surprised to see Max out on a Coast Guard Auxiliary patrol this season! Training has already begun.
Very Respectfully,
